Taphouse History
In 2011, our brewpub roots, with inefficient packaging located in the basement of the Deep Water Grille and increased demand created the conditions for the time to expand. Make more beer! We shopped around the southern shore of Lake Superior because we were not willing to give up our fresh water resource by moving away. Luckily, our neighbors across the Chequamegon Bay in Washburn had a perfect facility for us. The site had many previous businesses, but it’s facade hints that it may be best known from its time as the Super Bowl bowling alley. Renovations included a 15 barrel brewhouse, an initial fermentation capacity of 4000+ barrels annually, as well as more effective packaging, product handling and distribution capabilities.
Besides being a cozy and intimate setting for sampling South Shore beer on tap, and perhaps talking beer smack with the staff, it’s also a space where people come together for a fresh pint, experience vinyl records playing, friendly games of bar shuffleboard and marksman darts. We're a BYOF "Bring Your Own Food" joint, which can be “take out” from local restaurants or your own snacks. Enjoy them while playing a game of cribbage, too. Our event venue has been proven large and effective enough for hosting special events and meetings. Currently serving up smiles and beers five nights a week. Our outdoor seating (weather permitting) is where you can chill with your well-behaved dog. Accessible via Bay Area Rural Transit public transit, B.A.R.T. bus stop “Washburn 5th Street”.
