SPecialty & SeasonAL

Willie's Alloa Ale

1/31/2019

STRONG SCOTCH ALE
7.35% ABV
19.4 IBU
251.5 CAL./12OZ.
26.8 CARB/12OZ.
This ale is dark brown in color with ruby highlights. A slight roastiness on the nose with hints of smoke give it a unique smell. Roasty flavors up front lead into deep caramel and burnt sugar towards the end. A full bodied ale with plenty of sweetness, but that also finishes somewhat dry. Expect a warming sensation at the end from the higher ABV.

Notes on Name & Artwork

WIllie’s Alloa Ale derives its name from both the town of Alloa in Scotland, once as famous as Burton-on-Trent in England for its brewing prowess, and the infamous Scottish Groundskeeper Willie from “The Simpsons”. The tartan pattern in the graphic comes from the MacDougall family, which is this fictitious character’s family name.

Good Morning - I was pleasantly surprised to learn of "Willie's Alloa" - I have worked in three of the Alloa breweries at one time or another.

We still have one operating and prospering.

The town also has other famous connections - John Jameson of the Dublin distillery was a native and is buried here, his great grandson Marconi is considered the "Father of the Radio" across the world.

Mr Clark:

I have had the Belhaven Scottish Ale and the "Wee Heavy" ale, as well as the McEwans Scottish Ale. Both are very delicious and enjoy them. Seeing this "Alloa" from SSB I really want to try it. Will look for it on my next trip to the store.

Hello Ben,

Belhaven is brewed in Scotland, at Dunbar.

McEwan's is now part of the Marston empire, produced in England AFAIK - they brew some excellent real ales.

William McEwan (1823-1913) was a native of Alloa and his sister Janet married into one of the local brewing families, that's largely how he got into brewing.

7.3% ABV is strong stuff - if you ever see McEwan's Champion Ale on import, give it a try, it's also in that range, very acceptable.

Lookout for Williams Brothers products, an Alloa based craft brewer who is doing very well. Available in the USA - you might find distributors via Google.

Enjoy
